Station Staff - booking office, platform staff etc.
article by: Garry Owen
The Booking Office Clerk is normally the first member of our
staff to meet and greet our passengers and first impressions are
very important. If you are numerate, of a calm nature and enjoy
meeting and dealing with the public then this could be the job for
you. It is both varied and interesting and you can work at any of
our three stations. On special event days additional staff are
rostered to spread the workload. Full training is given and before
long you will be a Booking Office Clerk. This is also a rostered
position where you will be expected to keep to your promise of
working on those days when you say you will.
The Stationmaster has to know the answer to every sort of
question that may be asked. Is perceived as being in control of
everything that happens at the station. A friendly, sociable,
knowledgeable and calm personality is expected, but training will
be given for the practicalities of being a Stationmaster. Serving
time as a Booking Office Clerk and/or a Guard will normally provide
the valuable background to running a railway. This is also a
rostered position where you will be expected to keep to your
promise of working on those days when you say you will.
