If you're stuck for something to do tomorrow (Wednesday 1 June)
you could take an enjoyable day on the lovely Severn Valley Railway
- and help the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway's Emergency
Appeal at the same time!
Get to Kidderminster station by 11.00 and you should find a
gleaming 'Earlstoke Manor' waiting to depart with a special train
for Bridgnorth, departing at 11.05. On the way, the train takes a
break at Highley for a visit to the acclaimed Engine
House visitor centre and
museum.
The special train returns from Bridgnorth at 16.25 for the run
back to Kidderminster.
Tickets cost just a 'tenner' for all ages and all proceeds are
in aid of the GWSR's Emergency Appeal - a truly wonderful
gesture. Of course the SVR itself knows all about disaster:
in 2007 it suffered catastrophic embankment collapses that were
washed away by floods.
You might even get a chance for a footplate ride - if you enter
the draw being organised by GWSR volunteers!
