The little bubble car – beep beep

A casual observer at Toddington last week would have noticed what at first glance was a railway carriage being eased off a road transporter. But closer inspection would have shown that the ‘carriage’ had a driving compartment at each end, diesel engines beneath the floor and exhaust pipes running up to roof level. It is a class 122 ‘Bubble car’

The Easter weekend put a firm mark in the sand for the Honeybourne Line’s 2011 season, with over 2,000 passengers carried: blowing away any doubt that the ‘divided’ railway might not be a going concern.

Just in time for the extended Easter break, the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway – or Honeybourne Line – starts its steam-hauled train service from Cheltenham Racecourse station on Good Friday, 22nd April.

The first day of the new diesel railcar services from Toddington was a triumph, with the two-car service being well patronised - visitors particularly enjoying the panoramic spectacle of seeing ‘the road ahead’ from the front or rear of the train.
