Fire in 2807’s belly once again

The boiler of veteran Chruchward 2-8-0 no 2807 had a fire lit in its grate for the first time in nearly half a century on 17 March, underlining the progress that has been made by owners Cotswold Steam Preservation.

Paul Stratford, a member of the locomotive department, spent Sunday 7th March not on the footplate but at the line side, capturing 0-6-2T no. 5619 on its last day of operation on the Honeybourne Line before leaving for the North Norfolk Railway. Farewell, Taffy…

The thunder of hooves, tic-tac men, the heady atmosphere and of course the endless traffic jams (unless you travel by train!). Naturally, we’re talking about the Cheltenham Festival and the excitement starts at Toddington next week!

Bright weather, an immaculate green steam engine and a shining blue diesel, lots of smiling faces and plenty of income through the ticket office window got the railway’s 2010 season off to a flying start.
