Enjoy a Heritage steam & diesel Railway in the spectacular scenic cotswolds

The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway is a volunteer operated heritage railway in Gloucestershire and Worcestershire offering a round trip of 28 miles. It uses part of the route of the former Great Western Railway's main line from Birmingham to Cheltenham which used to run via Stratford-upon-Avon.

It now operates steam and heritage diesel trains between Cheltenham Racecourse and Broadway through some of the most spectacular scenery in the Cotswolds. The line commands wonderful views of the nearby sleepy hamlets and villages, with outstanding outlooks across to the Malvern Hills and beyond.

What our travellers say

For the past 5 years we have been awarded the Tripadvisor® Certificate of Excellence and we are currently the number two attraction in Cheltenham as well as being in the top ten attractions in the whole of the Cotswolds.

Father's Birthday

We had a trip on the Steam train in Cheltenham 1/04/23 and I wanted to say what a lovely time we had. The reason was for my fathers 90th birthday, the guys at the station went above and beyond to make our trip the best possible. My father is disabled and in a wheelchair and they helped us so much . My mum at the grand age 92 was also give a wheelchair so she didn't have to walk the whole platform, everyone was happy and so friendly it was a brilliant day trip. Thank you all so very much for making it possible for us to let my parents remember the olden days and remember their memories.

Fish and Chips

I keep meaning to write & thank all those involved with the Murder Mystery and Fish & Chip evening. My family of 13 of us really enjoyed the time with you, it was great fun and some of them managed to get a prize for working out the murderer! The fish & Chip were delicious and lovely & hot and all the volunteer staff were so nice. We do hope you have more events like that, it made a very special birthday event.

Australian cousins

I just wanted to say thank you on behalf of our family group for the excellent trip we had on Saturday. The GWSR certainly lives up to its name as a friendly railway. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the trip and the buffet and being in “Mary” was the icing on the cake! We were having a reunion of cousins after many years and this trip was specially requested by my Australian cousins. They said it was the highlight of their holiday which is a real accolade given they are travelling around the World for three months! Thank you for arranging it for us.
